Graduate Writing Institute

The Graduate Writing Institute takes place for three weeks in June and is targeted to graduate students working on theses, dissertations, papers for publication, and/or proposals for these documents. The GWI is not a writing bootcamp. Participants work on their writing in a variety of contexts facilitated by Writing Skills faculty: large-group workshops, presentations, and panel discussions; small-group and individual tutoring sessions; min-writing bootcamps; and focused writing activities.

The Institute is conducted in a blended, synchronous environment (i.e. students participate in person and online simultaneously and in real time). In addition, we have now opened the GWI to non-UA participants for an additional nominal program cost, and both UA and non-UA graduate students join us from across the globe. 

Attendance Policy for the Graduate Writing Institute: You must attend at least 90% of the program. If you anticipate any absences or potential time conflicts, please contact us before applying.

WSIP Young Writers Programs

Young Writers Institute (formerly Summer Institute for Writing and Thinking Across the Curriculum). The Young Writers Institute is held in July. This three-week program focuses on providing students opportunities to develop writing fluency and confidence in academic writing through project-based activities. Participants also visit university resources and learn about university programs.

Over the years, participants in our summer institutes have become part of the WSIP family. We have worked consistently with numerous program participants who have gone on to earn their bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees at the University of Arizona.
