Writing Institutes

WSIP offers writing institutes for university undergraduate and graduate students. We are focused on helping students hone their skills in writing as they prepare for successful academic experiences. For questions about any of our institutes, please contact Dr. Holm at ahholm@email.arizona.edu or writingskills@email.arizona.edu

In January 2022, WSIP will launch the Academic Writing in the Borderlands initiative for undergraduate and graduate students. Our goal is to help students deepen their understanding of academic writing conventions and develop their awareness of what it means to be an academic scholar and researcher working from and in the Borderlands.  Academic Writing has three components in spring 2022, January Writing Institute, Spring Tutoring, and Spring Speaker Series. We are no longer accepting applications for the Writing Institute or Tutoring, but the Spring Speaker Series is free and open to the public.

We are pleased to announce that the 2022 session is supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities American Rescue Plan. Fees may apply to non-UA students.

Please contact ahholm@email.arizona.edu or writingskills@email.arizona.edu with questions.

Application process is closed.

Each summer for three weeks in June, WSIP offers the Graduate Writing Institute (GWI) for selected graduate students interested in improving or simply moving forward in their writing. The GWI helps graduate students complete advanced research projects, articles for publication, grant and research proposals, conference presentations, theses, and dissertations. We do not accept students who will be writing their comprehensive exams during the program. Students of various disciplines work on their writing by participating in the following activities:

  • Writing workshops
  • Individual Tutoring
  • Facilitated Small Group Tutoring
  • Writing Boot Camp
